Volcom was born in 1991 when two friends, Richard Woolcott and Tucker Hall, went on a snowboard trip and came up with an idea to create a clothing company that embodied their love for skateboarding, snowboarding, and surfing.
These alternative sports were looked down at the time, so Richard and Tucker decided to start something different—a brand that celebrated creativity, rebellion, and pushing boundaries. Volcom's "True to This" mantra reflects the company's commitment to breaking norms and fostering a culture of expression through action sports.
Volcom was born with an initial $5,000 from Richard's dad. Richard and Tucker were all about the ride, so they kept travelling the world with their crew. The business side was barely a thought. Their "HQ" was Richard's bedroom in Newport Beach, with Tucker's room in Huntington Beach doubling as the warehouse. They didn't have a clue about making clothes, but it didn't matter. It was all about the vibe and raw creativity.
Today, Volcom is a global icon, recognised for its bold designs and high-performance gear, making it a go-to for those living on the edge.
